Russian tarragon, scientifically Artemisia dracunculoides, is a perennial herb that provides an easy-to-grow alternative to French tarragon herb for your classic Béarnaise sauce. Its leaves provide a unique flavor. They enhance many recipes, from salads to compounded sauces.
Russian tarragon seeds are sown in early spring. Choose a location with lots of sunlight and soil that drains well. Barely cover the seeds with soil so they can get enough light for germination. Keep the soil moist until they germinate, which should happen in 14-21 days.
Once the plants are established, Russian tarragon needs minimal care. It is a vigorous perennial herb that can reach 3 and a half feet tall.
