White Horehound Seed - Marrubium
Survival Garden Seeds offers horehound seeds, perfect for gardeners interested in growing this traditional medicinal herb. Our non-GMO seeds are selected for their growth vigor, ensuring a productive and beneficial addition to your herb garden.
Horehound, or Marrubium vulgare, has long been used in herbal medicine for its potential expectorant and antispasmodic properties. This plant's bitter leaves have been reported to stimulate the digestive system and may be useful as a cough remedy. Horehound originates from Europe, North Africa, and some parts of Asia. Today, it is naturalized to a number of climates and is successfully grown in USDA hardiness zones 3 to 10.
Plant horehound seeds in spring or fall, directly into the garden bed or container. These seeds will germinate in the presence of light. Don’t cover them with soil when planting. The seeds sprout best in well-draining soil and direct sun, within two to three weeks.
Once established, horehound herb needs minimal care. It loves dry, poor soil, so watering is only necessary after a long drought. Prune the plants after flowering to boost fresh growth. For the highest quality for medicinal use, we recommend harvesting the leaves before flowering begins. These leaves can be used fresh or dried for herbal remedies (like cough drops, candy, teas, syrups, and tinctures).
With Survival Garden Seeds, growing horehound medicinal herbs will be easy and enjoyable. With little care, every gardener can have fresh leaves from a truly useful plant. Make yourself some tea and horehound candy, or use this plant for any other remedies you need.
